Abstract

A few years ago hydrogen was the answer to all climate- and energy-related problems. Predictably, it has not succeeded in solving them, and sentiment in many places has turned hard against it. But energy transitions take decades, and building new global industries needs many factors to come together. Hydrogen can still contribute meaningfully to reducing carbon and pollutant emissions, help build new industries, and aid a just energy transition. Where does it make sense, how do we build the necessary ecosystems, and what are we still learning about hydrogen?
