This ESI workshop brings together relevant scholars and experts from several countries to discuss the current issues on carbon capture and storage value chain, processes and risks. As part of the global energy transition toward zero-carbon economies, CCS technologies offer a pivotal solution to reduce CO₂ emissions across sectors that are hard to decarbonise. This workshop will examine the CCS value chain in depth, exploring essential stages from CO₂ capture, transport, and storage to its utilisation in sustainable products and processes. Scholars and experts will delve into technical and policy-related dimensions, assessing both the opportunities and the challenges involved.

The workshop will also highlight risks and considerations within the CCS implementation process, including the economic, political, and institutional factors shaping its adoption. By understanding these risks and exploring the full CCS process, stakeholders can better align technology development with regional decarbonisation strategies, helping countries navigate its unique decarbonisation pathway amid the global climate effort.

Our discussions will offer insights into the interplay between government policy, technology deployment, and carbon management, positioning CCS as an integral component of regional energy strategies.

Topics to be covered include:

•           Examination of how CCS fits into the broader decarbonisation toolkit alongside renewable energy and efficiency measures

•           Assessment of policy frameworks and incentives needed to drive CCS adoption in transport

•           Challenges and opportunities for developing regional CCS infrastructure, including cross-border CO₂ storage and transportation collaborations13:00 – 13:30
