VISIT BY CHINA RENEWABLE ENERGY ENGINEERING INSTITUTE (CREEI)

On the 25th of October 2023, ESI was delighted to welcome the delegation from the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI), including Dr GONG Heping (Deputy Director General), Dr XUE Lianfang (Deputy Chief Engineer and Director of the Environmental Protection Department), Dr XIE Hongwen (Deputy Chief Engineer), Ms ZHANG Muzi (Deputy Director of the International Business Department, and Secretary-General of ESCIR), Ms WANG Yicheng (Engineer) and Ms YANG Xueqian (Engineer). They met with Prof LEE Poh Seng (ESI Executive Director), Dr SU Bin (Senior Research Fellow and Division Head), Dr YAO Lixia (Senior Research Fellow and Division Head), Dr ZHONG Sheng (Senior Research Fellow) and Dr KIM Jeong Won (Senior Research Fellow).
CREEI delegation shared their international collaborations between China and ASEAN with the support of the National Energy Administration (NEA) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in China. Their research focuses on hydropower, including environmental protection, efficient utilization of hydropower, regional sustainable development, cross-border electricity trading and related environmental and social issues. They also introduced the research work done by the Ecosystem Study Commission for International Rivers (ESCIR) and invited ESI colleagues to participate in the ESCIR committee. ESI team shared the research programmes on “Technology Assessment & Decarbonisation Pathways”, “Energy Consumption, Carbon Accounting & Circular Economy”, “Strategies of Other Countries”, “Security of Supply” and “Carbon Pricing & Climate Finance”. Both parties were interested in exploring collaborations in the regional power grid analysis, including power technology, energy/environmental policy, and impact assessments.
