Dr. Xiong Jie joined ESI in January 2023. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in November 2017. During the Ph.D. candidature, Dr. Xiong’s research scope encompassed the application of operations research (i.e., stochastic programming and robust optimization) and life-cycle assessment in optimizing waste-to-energy system design and operation under uncertainty. His research scope also involved studying the effect of policy interventions on the behaviors of self-interested agents in a competitive waste-to-energy market.

After graduation from NUS, Dr. Xiong joined the Energy and Environmental Sustainability Solutions for Mega-cities (E2S2) program, Future Resilient Systems (FRS) program, and energy studies institute as research fellow to optimize energy system under uncertainty. He also worked as the senior data science manager in the Lazada group to improve the vehicle routing model and algorithm. Through fruitful collaborations with other researchers, Dr. Xiong’s on-going research work now focuses on developing quantitative models for optimizing large-scale energy system and exploring potential policy interventions to achieve different climate change targets in Singapore.Dr. Xiong Jie joined ESI in January 2023.
