Nafi joined the Energy Studies Institute in May 2025 as a Research Associate. Prior to this appointment, he was a Junior Researcher at the University of Queensland, where he conducted a life cycle assessment of large-scale green hydrogen production in Australia. He also brings three years of industry experience as a Process and Commissioning Engineer at an EPC company in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he led project design and commissioning tests for various systems including water treatment, boiler feed water, and chemical injection units.

Nafi holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy from the University of Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia.

During his Master’s study, he conducted a techno-economic analysis of green hydrogen production and supply chain complexity in Queensland. He was also involved in assessing blue hydrogen technologies such as autothermal reforming (ATR), executing household energy audits, developing green hydrogen policy briefs, analysing Australia’s energy markets, and designing hybrid renewable energy systems for rural communities.
