Northern China Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning, and Refrigeration Summit and New Technology and Product Exhibition

Dr. Victor Nian, Senior Research Fellow of the Energy Studies Institute, National University of Singapore; and Executive Director of UNi-LAB on Integrated Systems Analysis Tools was present at the China North Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Summit and New Technology and New Products Exhibition from 16th to 19th May 2019 as an international expert and invited guest of the Chinese Association of Refrigeration Tianjin.

In his talk, Dr. Nian analyzed the long-term prospects of carbon dioxide or R744 technology in the Southeast Asian market under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. As an emerging environmentally friendly technology, R744 technologies can and should play an important role in the technology alternative pathways. Southeast Asia is located in the hot and humid tropical climatic zones, the gas cooler of R744 systems tends to have a high outlet temperature and large throttling loss, which can translate to a low  system efficiency. Through a dissection of the life cycle economic and environmental benefits of R744 technologies, Dr. Nian deep dived into the opportunities and challenges of R744 technologies under the present market and climatic conditions in Southeast Asia. Dr. Nian pointed out that the future prospects of R744 technologies are promising but there are immediate research development and demonstration needs to be addressed.

This summit was the first industry event jointly organized by the Associations of Refrigeration from 12 provinces and municipalities, and hosted by Tianjin Association of Refrigeration. The summit was participated by more than 120 Design Institutes and 20 Institutes of Higher Learning from China and 168 companies worldwide .
