On 07 September 2018, ESI hosted Mr Torstein Tvedt Solberg, Member of the Norwegian Parliament who is in the Standing Committee for Education and Research. He was accompanied by H.E. Anita Nergaard, Norwegian Ambassador to Singapore; Ms Margrethe Saxegaard, Senior Advisor, International Department, Storting; Mr Daniel Hirsch, Counsellor & Deputy Head of Mission; and Ms Kristine Gjøs, Trainee at the Norwegian Embassy in Singapore.

ESI was represented by Professor Ang Beng Wah, Executive Director; Dr Philip Andrews-Speed, Senior Principal Research Fellow and Head of Energy Security Division; and two Senior Research Fellows, Dr Christopher Len and Dr Liu Yang.

Mr Solberg has interests in higher education and research, particularly relating to energy issues. At the meeting, ESI colleagues introduced him to the institute’s research on the ASEAN region, covering topics on ASEAN energy market integration, energy efficiency, renewable energy and investments in the energy sector. They also briefed him on ESI’s work on sustainable energy developments in the Arctic. The two parties then discussed past and future collaborations, as well as academic visits between ESI and Norwegian higher education institutions.
