On 28 September 2017, a joint seminar held in connection with a ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Tromsø - The Arctic University of Norway (UiT) took place at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House, NUS.

Moderated by Dr. Christopher Len (NUS Energy Studies Institute) and Dr. Per Christer Lund (Innovation Norway, Singapore), the seminar covered four themes: Ocean and Climate Change in the Law of the Sea, Maritime Engineering, Gas Hydrates, and Arctic Engineering. After welcome remarks and introductions by the moderators, participants first gave brief presentations on their research areas and then discussed issues of common interest and potential collaboration.

The NUS presenters consisted of Professor Chow Yean Khow (Executive Director, Maritime Institute@NUS and Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering; Director, Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory), Associate Professor Robert Beckman (Head, Ocean Law and Policy Programme, Centre for International Law), Associate Professor Praveen Linga (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering), and Associate Professor Pang Sze Dai (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Deputy Head, Academic Affairs).

The UiT participants were Professor Bjørn Solvang (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology), Professor Peter Wide (Department of Engineering and Safety, Faculty of Science and Technology), and Ms. Maja Sojtaric (Communications Adviser, Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Science and Technology and Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate (CAGE)).

On the same evening, an MoU ceremony was held at the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence in Singapore. The MoU between NUS and UiT is aimed at facilitating research collaboration between the two universities.
