Participation in the 25th WIN (Women In Nuclear) Global Annual Conference

ESI Research Associate, Ms Ira Martina Drupady, who is part of the ESI-CIL Nuclear Governance Project’s multidisciplinary team, attended this year’s Women in Nuclear Global Annual Conference held in Beijing, China, 2017 from 28th August to 1st of September. The conference combined networking opportunities and information sharing sessions focusing on the experiences of women working in the nuclear field. Panel topics included nuclear safety, nuclear cooperation and the role of women in nuclear.

The conference also hosted a technical visit to Shidaowan (Shidao Bay) Nuclear Power Plant to observe the construction of the HTR-PM, a High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor (HTGCR) concept. The plant is also the construction site for China’s CAP 1400 demonstration project, which currently includes two planned reactors. There was also a tour of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant, which is commissioning the first two out of its planned eight AP 1000 reactors.

Conference participation included men and women representing nuclear regulators and other relevant government institutions; international organisations; industry and industry organisations; academia; think tanks; and relevant civil society organisations from China and around the world
