Research Highlights

Hiang Kwee works at the National Climate Change Secretariat (www.nccs.gov.sg) as Lead Technologist, where his responsibilities include providing advice and assessment on energy technologies (for e.g. through the development of NRF/NCCS Technology Primers and Roadmaps) that can address climate change challenges, and modelling and analyzing energy and emissions flows in Singapore to provide greater understanding of the impacts of policy and technology measures and levers to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate change impacts.

He is on a 2-year Leave of Absence from the DNV Clean Technology Centre (CTC) where he worked from 2010 to 2012 as Director (Urban Solutions) with responsibilities in business development and delivery of studies and consulting services in areas such as urban solutions and power, energy efficiency and management, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Hiang Kwee also serves as the Chairman of the newly-formed Energy Standards Committee under the Standards Council (which provides industry-led advice to SPRING Singapore), Chairman of the Project Evaluation Panel of the Energy Innovation Research Programme, and as a member of the Advisory Committee of Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Engineering.

Before joining DNV, Hiang Kwee was an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. He was also on a joint appointment at A*STAR from 2007-2010, directing the Energy Technology Programme, and the Experimental Power Grid Centre (formerly SINERGY Centre). He has published technical papers and given presentations in many energy-related areas, including modelling of advanced fuel cell systems and life cycle assessment of energy conversion technologies.

  • Techno-economic and life cycle modeling and analysis of energy technologies and systems, including for climate change mitigation
  • Distributed power and renewable energy
  • Energy management and energy efficiency
