UPDATE on the Forum
“Mystery Guest” and 3rd speaker revealed for the May 5th ESI Energy Forum.
Mr. Lee Eng Lock, Technical Energy Director, Asia Energy Services, Trane Singapore will join Drs. Jay Hakes and Michael Quah as the 3rd speaker and panellist at this Energy Forum. His bio is attached below. Mr. Lee will focus his presentation on energy efficiency as a contributor to energy security. His talk is entitled Negawatts for Buildings : Quick, Simple, Good ROI, Proven -- It's too logical to work.
ESI is proud to present this event as the second in the series of ESI Forums, the first being the very successful panel discussion on the ESC Recommendations on 22nd March 2010 which featured Prof. Linda Lim (University of Michigan) and Dr. Natasha HamiltonHart (NUS), and ESI Principal Fellows: Dr. Tilak Doshi and Michael Quah.
Our forum on 5th May 2010 will consist of two short presentations (plus one) and a panel discussion on US and ASEAN Perspectives on Energy “Independence” and the Carbon Challenge. The moderator is Dr. Felicia Shaw, Assistant Director, Energy Division, MTI.
Dr. Jay Hakes, Director, Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum and Former Administrator, Energy Information Administration, U.S. Department of Energy recently wrote a book on “A Declaration of Energy Independence (John Wiley & Sons, 2008), that takes a new look at the development of U.S. energy policy and offers suggestions on how to lessen dependence on foreign oil. He will give a short talk on these US perspectives and also address climate change issues in his talk, entitled “Economic Development, Energy Security, and the Carbon Challenge.”
Dr. Michael Quah, Principal Fellow and Chief Scientist of ESI, will then follow up with ASEAN perspectives modified from a keynote presentation at the recent Tufts Energy Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. His talk is entitled “Energy (R)Evolution: Global and ASEAN Perspectives.”
Mr. Lee Eng Lock, Technical Energy Director, Asia Energy Services, Trane Singapore, as do the other two speakers, has had a long history with the US DOE since the late ‘90’s. In 2009, he presented a Distinguished Energy Efficiency lecture at the US DOE’s Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL.) Mr. Lee is well-known for his work in energy audits, retrofits, and designing and building extremely energy efficient systems. He has done energy work in clean rooms and wafer fabs in Japan and Taiwan and has lectured internationally from Denmark to Qatar, from the US to the Philippines and Australia.
Dr. Felicia Shaw will then open the floor to questions from the audience and moderate a panel discussion with the three speakers. The focus of the panel discussion would be on issues of energy security, the carbon challenge and economic development opportunities presented by these challenges.
