About the Panellists
Prof. Linda Yuen-Ching Lim: Professor of Strategy at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Linda had also served as Director of the 50-year-old Centre for Southeast Asian Studies. A well-known native of Singapore, Linda obtained her degrees in economics from the universities of Cambridge (BA), Yale (MA) and Michigan (PhD). Linda is often quoted in the Straits Times and other prominent international papers and she is also the founder and editor of the refereed Journal of Asian Business.
Dr. Natasha Hamilton-Hart: Associate Professor and Deputy Head in the Southeast Asian Studies Programme of the National University of Singapore. Natasha teaches in the areas of political economy and international relations. She received her Ph.D. (Government) from Cornell University and her B.A. (Hons) from the University of Otago. Dr Hamilton-Hart has published on issues relating to finance and central bank management in Southeast Asia, security studies and climate change.
Dr. Tilak Doshi: Chief Economist and Principal Fellow at ESI. Dr. Doshi is an industry expert with over 15 years of international work experience in leading oil and gas companies, including Saudi Aramco, Unocal Corp., and Atlantic Richfield Corp. He received his Ph.D. Economics from the University of Hawaii and a Distinction for MA in Economics from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Dr. Doshi is the author of the first book to be published on the Singapore oil industry (Houston of Asia: The Singapore Petroleum Industry, ISEAS, 1989.)
Dr. Cheng-Guan Michael Quah: Chief Scientist and Principal Fellow at ESI. Dr. Quah has worked in industry (almost 20 years with E.I. duPont deNemours & Co, Inc. in the US, Japan, and Singapore) , NGO’s, and the US government (US Army RDECOM/CECOM) in fields ranging from polymers and gas separations to industrial electrochemistry and alternative energy systems. Originally from Penang, Malaysia, Dr. Quah has lived in the US since 1970 and has degrees from Harvard (B.A. magna in Chemistry and Physics) and Yale (M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.) Dr. Quah has lectured extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia on membranes, separations technologies, and energy and environmental challenges.
Jessica Cheam: Correspondent, Straits Times, Money Desk. Jessica writes on housing, urban
planning, business, energy, environment, and climate change for the Straits Times. She holds a M.A. (with Distinction) in Journalism from the University of London (Goldsmiths College) and a B.A. (Hons.) in Film and Literature from the University of Warwick, U.K. She is also the Founder and Editor of www.eco-business.com that serves the environmental businesses community in Asia-Pacific.
