ESI Research Associate, Ms Ira Martina Drupady, who is part of the ESI-CIL Nuclear Governance Project’s multidisciplinary team, attended a short course organised by the World Nuclear University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 8 to 12 October 2017. The topic of the course was the state of the world nuclear industry today. The course highlighted current developments in Indonesia's nuclear programme, including the country's plan to begin construction of its 10 megawatts (MW) experimental power reactor using high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) technology in 2018. The course also covered broader issues around nuclear safety, security, liability, public perception and nuclear economics. As part of the course, participants also visited Indonesia's 250 kilowatts (kW) Triga Mark II research reactor, Kartini, also located in Yogyakarta. The majority of the course participants came from a number of universities and government agencies in Indonesia.
