Dr. Philip Andrews Speed was in Abu Dhabi between 29 and 30 October 2013 at the invitation of the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) to participate at their 19th Annual Energy Conference. The theme this year was: Unconventional Fossil Fuels: The Next Hydrocarbon Revolution?
The overall aim of the conference was to have invited international experts examine Abu Dhabi’s influence on global energy dynamics, supply and demand and the geopolitics of the Arabian Gulf region in light of the latest developments surrounding unconventional fossil fuels. Dr. Andrews-Speed spoke on the topic “China's shale gas ambitions” in which he described the opportunities and constraints facing China as it seeks to unlock the potential of its vast shale gas resource.
The organisers were also interested in exploring the country’s prospective role in the future of energy and its related implications for the oil-producing countries of the Arabian Gulf and the global energy industry as a whole.
